This calculator separates the project into frame length, soil volume, irrigation, hardware and contingency. The perimeter is based on the number of beds, while soil volume uses the inside bed dimensions and actual fill depth. Enter delivered material prices rather than a shelf price that excludes freight or minimum quantities.
Costs commonly missed
Corner hardware, bracing, protective mesh, delivery, access preparation and irrigation fittings can materially change the total. Cedar, galvanized steel and composite kits also have different expected service lives, so the lowest initial cost is not automatically the lowest ownership cost.

Should paths be included?
Add path material separately unless it is included in the hardware and delivery field.
Why use inside dimensions?
Boards and posts occupy space, so exterior dimensions overstate soil volume.
How large should contingency be?
Ten percent is a practical starting point, but complex grading and difficult access justify more.
