Estimate electricity use before choosing a heater
Heater input in kilowatts multiplied by operating hours and duty cycle gives estimated daily kilowatt-hours. Multiplying energy by the local price per kWh gives cost. A 50 percent duty cycle means the heater runs for roughly half of the available heating period.
Use a realistic seasonal duty cycle. A heater may run almost continuously during a cold night and barely run on a sunny winter afternoon. Insulation, air leakage, thermostat placement, thermal curtains and the crop temperature target all affect runtime.
Compare scenarios instead of trusting one forecast
Run a mild, expected and severe scenario. This range is more useful than a single precise-looking total. The calculator covers electricity only; fuel-fired systems require fuel consumption, appliance efficiency, ventilation and local fuel pricing.
